Obv: Inscribed FIRST IN WAR AND IN PEACE / LAST IN SECURING around a circle enclosing a nude bust of Washington facing to the right with 1775 - 100 YEARS - 1875 inscribed above and signed I.F.W. DES to the left and G.H.L. FEC to the right, the whole surrounded by a plain rim.
Rev: A MONUMENT / CORNER STONE LAID 1848 - COMPLETED -:- 1876 around a circle enclosing (PRESIDENCY OF U.S. GRANT) above an image of the Washington Monument under construction with WASHINGTON and D.C. inscribed to the left and right. WOOD’S SERIES C NO.3 is inscribed below. The whole is surrounded by a plain rim.
