DescriptionFloral medallion between every two ribs; over-lapping shields over ribs; scalloped edge; lined with white satin and thin sheer white silk under the satin; carved ivory folding handle in interlocking link design. Stained where tassel and cord touch lace.
Provenance1872, said to have been purchased in Paris and given as a present to Eleanor Warren (b. 1847 - d. 1942) upon her marriage to Thomas Motley (b. 1847 - d. 1909), Boston; passed by descent within the family; 1947, given by the family of Mrs. Motley, through her daughter-in-law, Mrs. Thomas Motley, Milton, MA, to the MFA.
