「画(ぐは)ハ無声(むせい)の詩(し)、詩ハ有(うせい)声の画(ぐは)也。五渡亭が無声(むせい)の人物(じんぶつ)、ものいふがごとくなれども、きこえませぬ。才三さん、わたしがやしきにつとめた時、蓮見(はすみ)の露(つゆ)のなさけから、三ゝ九度のさかづきも、わづか一年秋風の、ふいとした事いやになり、えんをきれいにきり〳〵す、なくや霜夜のさミしさに、またことづまをぬひあハせ、いともあだなる花こゝろ、池(いけ)のかゞ糸影(かげ)をおく、うつりやすき水性(みづせう)なれバ、ながれのふちにはまらぬやう、その獨(ひとり)を慎つつしむべしと、五渡亭が天眼鏡(てんがんきやう)にてらして、人相見が星(ほし)をさしけり。
