DescriptionWoman's riding hat. Black rayon on buckram foundation; brim with upturned sides and 2 black ostrich plumes on left side. Grosgrain hatband, headband and binding; elastic strap. Label: "Jeanne Lanvin, 22, Foubourg St. Honore, Paris."
The fabric of the hat has a rayon warp and silk weft; the hat ribbon has a rayon warp and cotton weft. In each of these materials, the warp yarn conceals the thicker plied weft yarn that forms the rib. The buckram lining is linen.
