A lively puppy on a leash provides the finishing touch to the fashionable ensemble of a young lady about to go for a walk in damp weather. She wears a patterned raincoat over her kimono and carries an umbrella in her other hand. For lovers of art and fashion who could not afford to commission a painting, a large hand-colored print like this one would be the next best thing.

NOTES:
[1] Much of Bigelow's collection of Asian art was formed during his residence in Japan between 1882 and 1889, although he also made acquisitions in Europe and the United States. Bigelow deposited many of these objects at the MFA in 1890 before donating them to the Museum's collection at later dates.
