DescriptionHood of black fulled wool with white silk ties and design of appliquéd diamond-shaped crests (mon) of gilt leather on either side; lined with black plain-weave silk and dark blue twill-weave silk with design of peonies in gilt paper strip discontinuous supplementary patterning wefts; edged with silk and gilt paper strip binding.

[1] Much of Bigelow's collection of Asian art was formed during his residence in Japan between 1882 and 1889, although he also made acquisitions in Europe and the United States.
