Under
the direction of George Reisner, one of the pioneers of modern scientific
archaeology, the Museum Expedition excavated twenty-three sites along
the Nile River, both in Egypt and ancient Nubia (modern Sudan). Reisner's
headquarters were based at "Harvard Camp" behind the pyramids at Giza.
What
the expedition found added greatly to what we know about ancient Egyptian
and Nubian history and civilization. Many spectacular works of art found
during the excavations are now housed in the Museums of Boston, MA, USA,
Cairo, Egypt and Khartoum, Sudan.
