The Egyptian pharaoh was
considered part man and part god, the link between the world of mortals and the heavens.
His power and authority were supreme. Among his duties was the preservation of
"Maatorder or justiceagainst the forces of chaos. He ordered the
construction of temples, heard petitions, issued decrees, led the country into battle, and
