| False Door of Redi-nes From Giza, tomb G 5032 Dynasty 6, 2400-2250 B.C. Limestone Museum Expedition 21.961 The main focal point of the Old Kingdom tomb was the so-called "false door." This was a recessed niche that represented a portal through which the spirit of the tomb-owner could pass from his burial below ground into the tomb chapel. It was here that priests, relatives and friends could leave offerings. This false door shows the scribe and priest Redi-nes actually passing through the niche, in a very rare example of Egyptian full frontal two-dimensional representation.
