Under the direction of the Director of SMFA Financial Operations, the Bursar is responsible for managing student accounts receivable operations for the Museum School following generally accepted accounting practices and state and federal regulations. Responsible for daily and monthly operations of the Business Office including supervision of Assistant Bursar. In this role s/he will manage student accounts receivables for School; Counsel and advise students/parents about billing and payment options; Maintain close communication with the Financial Aid, Registrar’s and Academic Affairs offices to ensure the highest level of accuracy of tuition, fees and financial aid (institutional aid, loans, federal aid (Pell, SEOG) and scholarships; Maintain close communication with outside billing and payment provider (TMS); Create and review credit balance reports and process tuition refunds according to Federal regulations, accurately and in a timely manner; Prepare monthly accounts receivable transaction summary for reconciliation to the General Ledger. Assist in month and year-end closings as needed; Monitor delinquent accounts; Prepare collection letters; Initiate enrollment/termination of internal and external collection activity; Maintain and update detailed charge and refund tables in tuition billing system as needed; Coordinate financial planning information mailings and monthly billing; Participate on committees as appropriate (Student Success); Monitor student health insurance, tuition refund plan and MBTA pass program. Prepare and maintain enrollment reports to verify accuracy of payments to vendors; Monitor the integrity of information on the Web site as it pertains to the Business Office; Collect and deposit all payments related to student receivables including updating students’ accounts; Oversee petty cash funds including reimbursement and settlement; Monitor monthly payment accounts with outside payment agency.
Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree, 3 - 5 years higher education business office experience; Requires advanced knowledge and experience to exercise independent judgment related to student accounts, tuition and fee structure, financial aid resources, and programs and compliance requirements. Requires effective oral and written communication skills, excellent interpersonal, organizational and computer skills.
