Under the general direction of the Manager of Conservation Administration, the Collections Information Systems Programmer will assist in the maintenance of Artemis, the Museum’s collections management system, through the development of software and other tools. Essential functions will include: Participate in the design, testing and implementation of support software; Use SQL and VB skills to assist with the development of internal applications; Use programming skills to repair and upgrade existing code; Create technical design documents and participate in design and code reviews; Work with supervisor to understand and document all aspects of system maintenance and implementation; Learn the relationships between SQL tables used in the TMS software and other custom tools (plug-ins, maintenance routines), in order to support the work of maintaining the collections management system; Responsible for loading media created by the Imaging Studio and Visual Archives departments into the collections management system and for providing assistance to curatorial and conservation staff in loading images as needed; Shadow supervisor in troubleshooting Artemis software problems for the purposes of learning to address such problems independently; Assist in creating and modifying Crystal Reports used to support workflow and project management needs.

Qualifications include: Ability and willingness to learn appropriate programming languages to adapt to systems already in place and provide support for future projects; Thorough understanding of relational databases, SQL, object oriented design concepts, and writing views, procedures and functions. Experience with SQL Server 2005 & 2008 preferred; Knowledge of Crystal Reports 8.5 and XI preferred; Knowledge of ASP, ASP.NET, VB6, VB.NET, and/or other programming languages required. Experience with MS Visual Studio (VB6 – VS2010) preferred; Understanding of the differences and uses of server-side and client-side programming for web-based applications; Familiarity with Filemaker Pro; Experience with XSLT, XML, HTML; Familiarity with image formats and processing techniques preferred; Ability to prioritize multiple tasks and requests; Must exercise discretion and judgment in all aspects of handling confidential and sensitive information.
