Spanning ancient times through the late 20th century, the curatorial department of the Art of the Americas studies, interprets, presents, and manages one of the MFA’s largest permanent collections. Encompassing North, Central and South American paintings, sculpture, and decorative arts, the permanent collections galleries of the Art of the Americas Wing are the responsibility of the curatorial staff, who coordinate installations, research and build the collection, and prepare special exhibitions and associated projects.

The Art of the Americas department seeks an accomplished and enthusiastic individual for the position of Curator/Assistant Curator of Decorative Arts and Sculpture. Candidates must demonstrate excellent research, writing, and speaking abilities and must be committed to working collaboratively with colleagues across the museum to fulfill the department’s mandate of representing all of the Americas. Graduate degree expected, with specialization in decorative arts and sculpture of the Americas, or a related field. Three to five years museum experience required, ideally including some experience working with collectors and donors. The ideal candidate will offer creative thinking and innovative approaches to the presentation and interpretation of the collections. Will work with the Chair, curators, and staff of the department to assist with: collection development; donor cultivation; the preparation of exhibitions; ongoing activities of the Art of the Americas Wing; publications; gallery interpretation and other departmental responsibilities.
