Reporting to the Deputy Director, External Relations, the Director of Philanthropy directs all aspects of the Museum’s front-line fundraising activities in the area of individual philanthropy including Leadership Gifts, Planned Giving, Annual Programs, Stewardship and Events. Serves as a key member of the Division’s senior team. Manages a large staff of development professionals. Plays a central role in the implementation of campaign and annual fundraising strategies to advance the MFA's vision of transformation and achievement.

Requirements include: minimum of 10 years successful fundraising experience in a management position with extensive knowledge of leadership gifts, planned giving, annual giving, stewardship and events; demonstrated success in cultivating, soliciting and successfully closing six, seven and eight-figure gifts; experience in Campaign planning and implementation; experience in setting, forecasting and meeting departmental goals; leadership ability and strong management skills; experience working closely with top volunteers and board leadership; excellent communication skills, both written and verbal; ability to relate effectively with a wide range of constituencies; exceptional organization skills and a demonstrated ability to handle multiple tasks fluidly; proven success in a complex and fast-paced environment; poise, discretion, maturity, flexibility, initiative and ability to work as a team player essential.
