A crucial and highly visible role in the Information Technology Department, the Media Services Specialist will provide a wide range of audiovisual support for a wide variety of Museum programs and meetings - lectures, exhibitions, special events and other meetings and programs. As such, this job requires frequent evening and weekend and occasional on-call and holiday work. This position reports to the Manager of IT Services and Support and works in close coordination with our other Media Services Specialist and members of the department.
Essential Functions:
- Deliver, set up and operate media equipment for hundreds of events annually held in the Museum’s auditoriums, meeting rooms, restaurants and galleries, coordinated through a central scheduling system.
- Answer phone and email inquiries as needed to support the department’s customers.
- Strive for excellence in customer satisfaction, providing timely delivery, accurate set up and skilled operation of relevant equipment, from projectors and computers to microphones and sound systems.
- Maintain media components and systems within the facilities, including routine daily checks of installed exhibitions that incorporate media.
- Participate in sound checks or other setup checks needed to ensure the quality execution of events.
- Provide technical assistance and instruction as needed to ensure end users can successfully operate equipment such as projectors and laptops.
- Provide audio and/or video documentation of events as needed.
- Complete basic multimedia production tasks ranging from format conversions, DVD burning, PowerPoint assembly, and other production needs.
- Identify, report, and assist in diagnosing and resolving problems and implementing repairs, including coordinating with vendors and outside service providers.
- Assist in maintaining department schedule or inventory as needed.
- Assist in cleaning, storing and otherwise maintaining equipment in good repair.
- Provide more general IT support, including answering and responding to Help Desk calls during times when event support demand is low.

- 1 to 2 years experience in operating computers, projectors, sound systems and the like.
- A broad working knowledge of audiovisual terminology, technologies, and concepts.
- Comfort with both Windows and Macintosh computer operating environments.
- Curiosity and willingness to learn about general technical aspects of PC, networking, and mobile device technologies (formal and on-the-job training support provided).
