Program Evaluation Internship

The Education Department is responsible for programs that give visitors of all ages the opportunity to make direct connections with the Museum’s collection and exhibitions. The Department is organized into five sections: Gallery Learning; Planning and Evaluation; Interpretation; School Programs and Teacher Resources; and Studio and Community Arts.

The Department offers internships to college students who enjoy working with people and are interested in learning more about the many facets of Museum Education. Experience with art is not necessary but sometimes proves helpful. An internship acquaints students with the Museum’s collections and programs and provides the opportunity to explore a variety of career possibilities.

If you have good people skills, enjoy working as part of a team, and enjoy talking with visitors about how the Museum’s Education programs enhance their experiences with art, the Program Evaluation internship is for you. As you assist with outcome-based evaluation projects to help assess visitor learning, you will get the opportunity to learn about several Museum programs in depth, as well as gain experience in visitor research methods. Students with backgrounds in the social sciences (e.g. sociology, psychology, anthropology, etc) and/or research methodology - including statistics - are encouraged to apply.

Responsibilities:

  • Assist in designing evaluation studies
  • Assist in visitor interviews
  • Assist in observing programs
  • Assist in data tabulation, analysis and reporting

Qualifications:

  • Excellent interpersonal skills
  • Enrollment in and returning to an undergraduate program
  • Experience/interest in visitor research and knowledge of Excel is desirable
  • Experience/knowledge of social science research methods is desirable but not required 
  • Students of the social sciences (e.g. psychology, sociology, anthropology, etc.) and/or research methodology encouraged to apply
  • Knowledge of art history is a plus, but is not required
  • Ability to commit to 15 hours per week from late January through mid April
  • Ability to attend orientation on either Wed, Jan 21, (6pm), or Wed, Feb 4, (10am or 6pm)
