Under the supervision of the Security Managers and/or Supervisors, provide access control and security services at the MFA Staff Entrance and other facility entrances as directed. The Security Receptionist ensures business and VIP visitors and contractors are signed in correctly, notifies hosts or contacts, issues appropriate badges, maintains property check-in and art logs, inspects bags of exiting personnel and processes property passes.
Control the staff entrance/exit to the facility; Greet business and VIP visitors and contractors - log them in the appropriate log, and contact hosts or contacts; Practice excellent customer service skills and assist staff members, contractors or visitor as needed; Serve as an ambassador for the MFA and represent the institution’s brand and values in every encounter; Present a professional and friendly demeanor while maintaining a security command presence, using good judgment and maintaining composure at all times; Monitor the computer screen as staff and volunteers enter and ensure photos match the badge user; Confiscate expired badges; Comply with all policies and procedures of the museum and Protective Services Department. Enforce any rule of regulation applicable to the museum or your assigned post; Review property removal passes to ensure they are complete, signed and match the property being carried; Inspect all bags/parcels exiting the building; Review post orders regularly, stay abreast of changes and ability to perform and carry out the duties specified in the post orders; Keep post clean, neat and orderly at all times; Remain on-duty until properly relieved by another guard or directed to leave by a higher authority; Receptionist must abstain from revealing any of the MFA security programs or protocols to anyone outside of the department. Information on the security system, policies, procedures, patrols, observations, incidents, individual visitors etc. is considered confidential; Perform any other security related duty as directed by the Supervisor or other higher authority.
High School graduate or equivalent; Two years of experience in a customer service and/or security related environment; A friendly demeanor, excellent customer service skills and the ability to enforce museum policy in a positive manner are required; Must possess excellent verbal communications skills, a commanding presence, ability to tactfully enforce security policies and procedures, demonstrated ability to exercise good judgment, and earned trust to work with minimal supervision; Must have a track record of reliability and good attendance; Congeniality and ability to work with fellow security officers are of the utmost importance; Must be able to work in a busy environment while maintaining composure and a friendly demeanor; There may be a time, when a security officer is required to stay beyond their normal work time in order to cover another shift that is shorthanded; Receptionist must be able to use a radio, door unlock button, telephone, guard patrol system, and possess basic computer skills; Must have the ability to speak, read and write English; however, multi-lingual skills are a plus; Must be able to stand for extended periods of time; Must have knowledge of industry standards and best practices; Must have security focused customer service skills; Must have experience and ability to manage large crowds including special event vendors.
