We are seeking a part-time coordinator to perform a variety of duties in support and preparation for the conference, “New Thoughts on Old Things: Four Centuries of Furnishing the Northeast,” taking place in October 2013. This conference is co-sponsored by the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston, the Massachusetts Historical Society, and the Colonial Society of Massachusetts and is part of Four Centuries of Massachusetts Furniture – a collaborative of eleven institutions celebrating furniture and furniture-making in Massachusetts through an extensive series of exhibitions and programs in the fall of 2013, as well as an educational website to be launched in May (www.fourcenturies.org). The conference will feature emerging scholars working in a range of disciplines related to furniture and furniture making.

Reporting to the Senior Curator of Decorative Arts and Sculpture in the Art of the Americas department, the Symposium Coordinator will be responsible for orchestrating all of the logistics including, but not limited to the following: Distribute and administer the Call for Papers; Orchestrate all the logistics with speakers (i.e., communication, schedules, travel arrangements, etc.); Handle all logistics within the MFA, including coordinating arrangements with audio visual staff, the Museum’s food service vendor Restaurant Associates, the Member & Visitor Services department, Protective Services department, and others as necessary; Serve as point person for all of the institutions involved (Massachusetts Historical Society, Colonial Society of Massachusetts, Four Centuries of Massachusetts Furniture Steering Committee, and the MFA).

The ideal candidate should have a BA in Art History or related discipline; Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail, with outstanding follow-through skills; Must possess excellent people skills and ease in working with internal and external contacts at all levels; Solid computer skills required.
