Discussion with FBCG guild members: Aug 9: 11 am and 2 pm Aug 10: Noon and 2:30 pm
From 1937 to 1968, General Motors Corporation conducted a student model "dream car" competition and "auto styling" talent search; college scholarships were awarded for the scale models exhibiting best design and craftsmanship. These trust funds jumpstarted many young auto designers' careers.
This industrial arts youth outreach program was called the Fisher Body Craftsman's Guild (FBCG). An extraordinary gathering of one-twelfth-scale model "dream cars"—top award-winners—will be on view in the West Wing's North Gallery for two days only, with their makers in attendance. This retrospective of more than sixty handcrafted models will be a pure 1950s/1960s nostalgia trip. |
