Family Art Cart October through June Saturday and Sunday, 10 am–4 pm
July and August Wednesday, 10 am–8 pm Thursday and Saturday, 10 am–4 pm
Discover the MFA with fun (and educational!) activities designed for children ages 4 and up to do with adults in the galleries. Piece together puzzles, learn mythical tales, and uncover ancient Egyptian mysteries. Choose from our ever-changing array of interactive activities, books and Art Cards. Borrow a tote bag equipped with a sketch-book and colored pencils, and the Cart’s staff will point you on your way! Look for the red rolling Family Art Cart in the Sharf Visitor Center.

MFA Playdates Fridays, Sep 24, Oct 29, and Dec 31 10:30 am
On the last Friday of each month (except Nov and Feb), bring your toddler to enjoy special drop-in, read-aloud story time, followed by a short art tour that both kids and adults are sure to enjoy. Recommended for children ages 4 and younger with adults. Meet at the Sharf Visitor Center. No registration required.
Following the program, enjoy your own lunch in the Courtyard Cafe or Calderwood Courtyard, or choose from a great selection of kid-friendly options.
FREE with Museum admission. Drawing in the Galleries Wednesday, 6-9 pm
Sketch from live models and from objects in our collections. A facilitator provides insights on drawing technique and the artist-model relationship as it informs the creation of artwork. Drawing materials are provided to encourage spontaneous participation. For all ages.

Art Connections Explore the MFA with your children! Search for objects and images—from cats and flowers to mythical creatures to arms and armor—to learn interesting facts and get ideas for art-making activities. Each activity focuses on a specific theme, linking intriguing objects from many cultures. Download these self-guided activity sheets or pick up a copy at the Sharf Visitor Center when you visit the Museum. Recommended for ages 7 and up with adults.

The MFA through the Eyes of a Child: A Visiting Guide For Families Our free pocket-sized guide provides adults and children with information about exploring the Museum, including tips for parents, gallery games, and ideas for looking at and discussing art. Open Houses Celebrate the rich cultural heritage of Boston as the MFA opens its doors to the community. Enjoy our encyclopedic collection with local, national, and international performers, multilingual gallery talks (including American Sign Language), and hands-on art activities for families. All ages and abilities welcome; children must be accompanied by an adult.
