Liu Dan responded to the renowned “scholar’s rock,” Honorable Old Man Rock, with his dramatic installation Illusions of the Old Man Rock I–X, featuring nine rock paintings with a 30-foot-long handscroll of an imagined landscape. Watch as Hao Sheng, Wu Tung Curator of Chinese Art, highlights the many visual and imaginative qualities a single rock formation can have for the viewer as he discusses Liu’s creative process.
