This group, the only one of its kind in Boston, fosters appreciation of African and Pacific works through a varied program of lectures and provides a unique opportunity to meet people with similar interests.
Programs by Museum staff, Friends group participants, eminent collectors, distinguished scholars, and curators familiarize Friends of African and Oceanic Art with works at the MFA, other museums, and in private collections. Lectures may focus on connoisseurship and the history of collecting as well as on the contexts in which objects were created and used. A reception before each event gives participants a chance to exchange news, learn from each other, and discuss their passion. The intimate nature of the group allows participants to get to know and talk with the lecturers, among them well-known experts from around the world.
Participation includes invitations for two people to attend programs and runs on the same annual cycle—with the same expiration date—as your MFA membership. You must be a member of the MFA to join this group (see all levels and benefits of membership).
