BOSTON, MA (December 8, 2015)—The Museum of Fine Arts, Boston (MFA), is in contract negotiations with the Museum Independent Security Union (MISU). The Museum has put several proposals on the table that will provide members with pay increases, a bonus, and training that addresses areas such as emergency preparedness, conflict resolution and security operations. As we await the MISU’s response, we will continue to negotiate in good faith.

At this time, we are not contemplating a reduction in the number of guards, will maintain guard coverage in the galleries, and will continue to offer day, evening, and overnight shifts. The MFA has always utilized a combination of staff and technology to ensure the safety of the Museum community. In today’s environment, it is critical that the Museum’s security workforce is prepared to protect our staff, students, volunteers, visitors and the collection in a variety of situations.

Working collaboratively with the MISU, and mindful of the needs and welfare of our guards, our intention is an amicable resolution that leads to positive changes for the Museum and its staff.
