- Because Cuban artist Lázaro Saavedra’s visa for travel to the US has been subject to administrative delays, his two performance art pieces scheduled for March 18 and 19 as part of the exhibition Permission To Be Global/Prácticas Globales: Latin American Art from the Ella Fontanals-Cisneros Collection, have been postponed. Staff and curators at the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston (MFA), are continuing to work with the US Office of Interests in Havana and the US State Department to secure Saavedra’s visa, and will reschedule his performance for a later date. Saavedra intends to realize a performance that was prohibited by cultural authorities in Cuba in 1990, in which he will lie in a casket in the gallery—paying sarcastic homage to the “death of the author” (i.e., himself).
