The Education Department is responsible for programs that give visitors of all ages the opportunity to make direct connections with the Museum’s collection and exhibitions. The Department is organized into five sections: Gallery Learning; Planning and Evaluation; Interpretation; School Programs and Teacher Resources; and Studio and Community Arts.
The Department offers internships to people who enjoy working with the public and are interested in learning more about the many facets of Museum Education. Experience with art is not necessary but oftentimes proves helpful. An internship acquaints volunteers with the Museum’s collections and programs and provides the opportunity to explore a variety of career possibilities.
Responsibilities:
Assist the Head of School Programs & Teacher Resources and the Manager of School Programs with final stages of yearlong project to revamp school program offerings in Asian art, which will be re-launched in fall 2013.
• Become familiar with the museum’s world-renowned Asian art collections (East Asia, South/Southeast Asia, Islamic World)
• Help to finalize new School Group Tour templates in Asian art (Chinese, Japanese, Korean, South/Southeast Asian, Islamic art)
• Help prepare for Gallery Instructor training course in Asian Art, including resource collection, background research, development of gallery activities, etc.
Requirements:
• Completion of significant coursework in Asian history and art history
• Previous experience in a museum or educational setting preferred
• Excellent research and writing skills
• Ability to commit to 12-15 hours per week through mid August
• Ability to attend orientation on either Tues, May 28 (9am-12pm) or Tues, June 11 (9am-12pm)
