The Finance Department is an integral part of the Museum of Fine Arts. The overriding responsibility of the Finance Department is to safeguard the assets of The Museum of Fine Arts, report accurately on the financial results of the Museum and provide awareness as to how resources are being used to advance the Museum’s goals.
Sound administrative, business and fiscal management practices are necessary to achieve these overriding responsibilities. Integral to these responsibilities is the need to provide informative financial reporting to the Board of Trustees, MFA management and the Museum community.
The Department is looking for an individual to assist the Treasury, Budget and Planning, and Controller’s office in various tasks, including review of record retention policies, assistance in documentation of procedures relating to various treasury, accounting, and reporting cycles, and other tasks.
This unique position offers the selected intern the opportunity to work within the Financial Department of a significant, complex nonprofit organization.
Hours and days can be flexible but would comprise approximately 15 – 20 hours per week through April.
Responsibilities:
• Various tasks, including assistance in preparation of documentation of procedures relating to various treasury, accounting, and reporting cycles, review of record retention policies, and other tasks.
Requirements:
• Finance and/or Systems background
• Demonstrated ability to assess issues and propose solutions
• Keen attention to detail and proven strong organizational skills
• Excellent communications and interpersonal skills to work with a diverse group of individuals
• Computer proficiency, with experience in all Microsoft Office Products – particularly Word documents and Excel spreadsheet capability
• Ability to work independently or effectively with minimum supervision
• Ability to commit to 15-20 hours per week through April
