The Ruth and Carl J. Shapiro Film Program at the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston, features contemporary cinema, restored classics, American independent films (including films by local artists), area premieres, and director retrospectives. The Program also hosts a number of film festivals throughout the year. Visiting artists frequently attend screenings and discuss their work with the audience. The internship will provide insight into the theories and ongoing operations of a respected film program within a major arts institution.
Responsibilities:
• Assisting with outreach and promotional campaigns
• Distributing film calendar at various drop-off locations around Boston
• Writing film descriptions for calendar (online & print)
• Watching movies and providing critical and insightful feedback
• Data entry, filing, and mailing
• Occasionally, you’ll be asked to provide assistance with a screening (e.g. passing microphones during Q/A, line management)
Requirements:
• A passionate interest in the film history, theory, and culture is a must
• Successful completion of at least one film course (not including production or screen writing)
• Expected to be a junior or senior in the 2013-14 school year
• Excellent written and oral communication skills
• Exceptional interpersonal skills
• Ability to excel whether working independently or collaboratively
• Ability to commit to 10-20 hours per week through August
• *Ability to attend the May 28th orientation and begin internship immediately thereafter
