The MFA’s Public Programs Department hosts over 800 events a year, with a diverse range in programming, including international and local film series featuring seven major annual film festivals; world music and indie rock concert series; art history and celebrity lectures; and much more. The Public Program team, (part of the Member & Visitor Services department), works with the Contemporary Art and MFA Programs departments on all events in Remis Auditorium, Alfond Auditorium, Riley Seminar Room, and Calderwood Courtyard. Visitor Services manages key operational areas, such as ticketing, staffing, logistical event planning, and customer services.

The Member and Visitor Services department is seeking an intern, who is able to commit to 10-12 hours a week, (primarily afternoons and evenings, Wednesdays-Fridays, but various weekend hours as well.) This is a great opportunity for someone interested in museum relations, educational programming, operational training, theater & event management, or hospitality to gain firsthand experience in the operational aspects of public programming in a large arts/cultural institution.

Responsibilities:
• Assist the House Manager and Assistant House Manager at events, working with volunteers & program staff to ensure programs run smoothly
• Assist House Manager and Assistant House Manager with office duties such as maintaining the volunteer’s schedule, and updating pre-program logistics.

Qualifications:
• Excellent organizational skills
• Exceptional verbal and written communication as well as interpersonal skills
• Excellent customer service skills (experience in crowd control a plus)
• Strong Microsoft Office Suite skills, particularly with Word and Excel
• Ability to maintain composure and make decisions under pressure
• Comfort working in a fast-paced environment
• Ability to commit to 10-12 hours per week (primarily afternoons and evenings, Wednesdays-Fridays, but various weekend hours as well) through
mid August
• Ability to attend orientation either Tues, May 28, (9am-12p) or Tues, June 11 (9am-12pm)
