Founded in 1876, the School of the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston, (SMFA), is one of the oldest and largest museum schools in the country. Designed for artists, by artists SMFA values cultural, artistic and intellectual diversity; it embraces a wide range of media; it stresses the development of individual vision and its relation to culture in general; it values equally the knowledge gained by thinking and by doing; it is deeply engaged with the world as a whole.
The Museum School’s Development department is primarily responsible for building lasting relationships with SMFA patrons and ensuring that the necessary funds are raised for operating support for the institution through its annual program. This is done through various operations including its annual program, SMFA Medici, its annual art sale, the Museum School Art Sale and its annual gala, the Medal Award Gala.
The SMFA Development department seeks a part-time intern to assist with administrative duties and special events. The selected intern will gain a firsthand exposure to and understanding of the day to day operations of a historically relevant art school with ties to a world renowned cultural institution.
Responsibilities:
• Assist with administrative tasks including filing, data entry, and research
• Special event support including mailings, tracking event attendance, creating nametags, greeting guests, and assisting in the setup of special events
• Other projects as appropriate
Qualifications:
• Experience using Microsoft Office Suite
• Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
• Ability to commit to 10-14 hours per week through early December
• Willingness to work occasional evenings
