The MFA Associates is a 58-year-old organization, which does a variety of important jobs within the Museum, including arranging flowers, guiding tours for the public, staffing the Sharf Information Desk and putting on Art in Bloom, the MFA’s annual four-day celebration of art and flowers. The MFA Associates also run the “Give the Arts a Chance” drawing, which provides significant support to the Museum’s operating budget each year.
This volunteer opportunity requires a four-year commitment, the first four months of which include training and orientation. On average, MFA Associates spend a minimum of two days per week at the Museum.
We are seeking applications from only those who would like to be flower arrangers. (Note: flower arrangers also serve on the information desk and work on Art in Bloom and “Give the Arts a Chance.”]
Interviews will take place in the fall of 2013, and selections will be announced in the late fall, with four year terms to begin in May 2014.
Qualifications:
• Reliability, flexibility, attention to detail, and excellent organizational skills
• Exceptional interpersonal skills, including the ability to communicate effectively with small and large groups
• Willingness to work as part of a team including people of various backgrounds and ages
• An interest in the arts is helpful
Requirements:
• Ability to commit to a range of 12-25 hours per week, depending on season and/or projects (peak times may require additional hours) for a four -year period
• Satisfactory completion of an intensive four-month training program, including four days of orientation
• Basic computer skills, (including email and Word)
• Submission of the online volunteer application and a current resume
• Membership (at any level) in the MFA
