Let the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston, bring art and history alive! Artful Adventures offers two programs specifically designed for Cub Scouts – Artful Adventures Cub Scout Tours and Cub Scout Workshops.

Chaperones: A minimum of one chaperone is required for every ten children. If you arrive without the appropriate number of chaperones, the Museum reserves the right to cancel your visit. All chaperones are free and receive a discount on parking in Museum facilities.

Cub Scouts

Art Belt Loop Workshop

Cub Scouts now have the unique opportunity to learn about art, history, and different cultures while also earning an award! Each visit lasts three and a half hours, combines gallery exploration with activities specially designed to fulfill all of the requirements for the Art Belt Loop, and includes a 30-minute break.

We do not provide awards as part of the Cub Scout Workshop programs.

Pricing: $12 per child (includes Museum admission). We charge for a minimum of 10 children. Payment in full is due on the day of your visit.

Monday, Tuesday, Saturday, and Sunday:
Anytime between 10:00 am and 1:00 pm

Wednesday and Thursday:
Anytime between 10:00 am and 6:00 pm

Tour & Activity Information:

Scavenger hunt to find materials used to create visual art compositions.

Look at artwork in the Museum's Asian collection and do a drawing activity in the galleries. Learn and talk about balance, colors, drawing an object by breaking it down into simple shapes, lines, patterns, and perspective.

Compare and contrast paintings painted in three different styles and from different time periods. Use color paddles to find the 3 primary colors and the 3 secondary colors and examine hands-on materials to learn about brush strokes and discover how paintings are made.

Paint on canvas and mix red, yellow, and blue paints to create secondary and tertiary colors on palette paper.

Art Academics Pin Workshop

Cub Scouts now have the unique opportunity to learn about art, history, and different cultures while also earning an award! Each visit lasts three and a half hours, combines gallery exploration with activities specially designed to fulfill all of the requirements for the Art Academics Pin, and includes a 30-minute break.

We do not provide awards as part of the Cub Scout Workshop programs.

Tour & Activity Information:

Look at landscape paintings and create a landscape collage with many different materials.

Learn about sculptures from different time periods and cultures then create a sculpture in the galleries using many different materials including found objects and recycled materials.

Explore paintings in our American collection to learn about portraits and the dimensions of a person’s face. Afterwards, create a self-portrait drawing in the galleries using a mirror and different drawing materials.

Visit one of the Greek and Roman galleries to look at some of the sculptures and busts then create a small “self-portrait” bust out of self-hardening clay and different clay tools in the studio.

Webelos Artist Activity Badge Workshop

Each visit lasts three and a half hours, combines gallery exploration with activities specially designed to fulfill all of the requirements for the Webelos Artist Activity Badge, and includes a 30-minute break.

We do not provide awards as part of the Cub Scout Workshop programs.

Tour & Activity Information:

Look at a mobile by artist Alexander Calder and a few other sculptures in the Museum. Afterwards, create a mobile using a variety of materials including colorful wire, popsicle sticks, paper, artist foil, and different types of recycled materials.

Explore modern art in the Museum's collections then use colorful sticky vinyl, fabric scraps, colorful paper, cellophane, and many other types of materials to create a modern art-inspired collage in the galleries.

Visit the impressionist gallery to learn about this style of painting. Use color paddles to discover the 3 primary colors and the 3 secondary colors, and also examine hands-on materials to learn about brush strokes and how paintings are made. Afterwards, draw your own impressionist-inspired picture on a piece of watercolor paper with watercolor pencils in the galleries.

Visit one of the Egyptian galleries to learn about some of the mysteries and stories from this ancient civilization and how they prepared for the afterlife. Afterwards the children can create a clay sculpture in the studio of something that they would take to the afterlife or of something inspired from what they saw in the galleries.

Artful Adventures Cub Scout Tours

Leaders work closely with Museum educators to design customized tours that fit the interests and needs of each pack. Each visit lasts an hour and a half and combines gallery exploration with one art-making activity. Artful Adventures Cub Scout Tours can be customized to meet the interests and needs of packs that have already begun working on completing the requirements for a particular award.

We do not provide awards as part of the Artful Adventures Cub Scout Tour program.

Pricing: $9 per child (includes Museum admission). We charge for a minimum of 10 children. All adult chaperones are free. Payment in full is due on the day of your visit.
