Patricia Hills, professor, History of Art and Architecture, Boston University
Raised all over Europe, the American painter John Singer Sargent developed an immense curiosity about people and unusual visual sights. While he became the 19th-century painter who most brilliantly captured the cultural sophistication of Europeans and Americans abroad, he also created subject pictures of touristic moments that appealed to both expatriates and those on holiday.

Three-session course tickets ($60, $75) are not available online.
