Lawrence Berman, Norma Jean Calderwood Senior Curator of Ancient Egyptian, Nubian, and Near Eastern Art

Famous around the world as the Boston Green Head on account of its gray-green hue, this portrait of an Egyptian priest, one of the icons of the MFA’s Egyptian collection, has a fascinating history that takes us back to one of the most famous archaeological discoveries of the nineteenth century.  Although we do not know his name, he has a fascinating story to tell, full of strange and interesting characters he met on his way to the MFA, which also reflects changing perceptions of Egyptian art.

Book signing follows in the MFA Bookstore and Shop.
