Utopian ideals propelled films from a variety of Middle Eastern countries into the “golden” period fo the 1940s to the 1960s. More recently, filmmakers of Egypt, Iran, and Israel have again turned their focus to this “utopian” period. Examine the nostalgia that pervades present views of this lost era and its ideals.
