“Englishness” as defined by 20th-century writers in England is influenced by postcolonial immigrants, race, and religion. Writers to be discussed include Zadie Smith, V.S. Naipaul, Mohsin Hamid, Nadeem Aslam, Hanif Kureishi, and Salman Rushdie.
