A Decent Man (Je ne suis pas un salaud) by Emmanuel Finkiel (France, 2015, 111 min.).
Things are looking up for ne’er-do-well Eddie (Nicolas Duvauchelle, Polisse, White Material) after he is beaten and mugged by a gang of hoodlums, earning him new sympathy and attention from his estranged wife and son. But Eddie’s new life is compromised when his story begins to unravel in court. Undertones of racial tension and repression make this film reminiscent of Michael Haneke’s Caché.
“Shot with terrifying, matter-of-fact coolness.” – Variety
