Cycle by Derviş Zaim (2012, 75 min.). The modern world collides with the traditional way of life in this film about a symbolic shepherding ceremony in which the sheep’s wool is dyed red. A documentary-fiction hybrid, Zaim casted real-life shepherds and had them play characters in the film’s fictional story concerned over the future of their ceremony. This film explores the bizarre, humorous, and sometimes-tragic world of shepherds who find themselves trapped between their beliefs and the modern world, struggling to discover, or enlighten others as to where they belong.
