Dancer in the Dark (2000, 140 min.). When the weight of the world becomes too much, Selma (Björk) transports herself to the world of Hollywood musicals and performs in song-and-dance numbers. Selma keeps quiet about her rapidly deteriorating sight so that she can retain her factory job and pay for an operation to prevent her son from also going blind. When a neighbor steals Selma’s savings, her life deteriorates quickly and tragically. This postmodern, revisionist musical employs key Dogma 95 “rules,” such as using only hand-held cameras and available light.
