Downeast by David Redmon and Ashley Sabin (2012, 76 min.). When the Stinson Cannery in Gouldsboro, Maine—the last sardine factory in the US—closed and left hundreds unemployed, Italian immigrant Antonio Bussone risked his personal fortune to transform the factory into one of the first lobster processing plants in the country. This poetic documentary sheds new light on the challenges of the American Dream in a time of economic uncertainty. “A highly contained, personable work that renders vast industrial problems on a profoundly intimate scale” (Indiwire).
