The Great Love (Le grand amour) by Pierre Étaix (France 1969, 87 min). Pierre imagines an affair with his young secretary to escape the monotony of working in his father-in-law’s factory. In the film’s most famous sequence, Pierre’s bed behaves like a car, gliding down the highway and picking up his secretary who joins him under the covers. “Wondrously comical! A loopily imaginative and painfully caustic mockery of love and marriage” (The New Yorker).
