Guilty (Présumé coupable) by Vincent Garenq (2011, 102 min.). With a riveting performance by Philippe Torreton, Guilty is a striking courtroom thriller. In 2001, Alain Marécaux (Torreton) and 16 others stood trial for molesting young children, even though there was little evidence against them. As the trial continued, it became clear there was questionable police work, illogical testimonies, and backroom bribes in this unbelievable true story of one of France’s greatest judicial scandals. Nominated for two 2012 César Awards (Best Actor, Best Adaptation).
