Killer’s Kiss by Stanley Kubrick (1955, 65 min.). A conventional film noir plot about a boxer, dancer, and gangster, Kubrick’s on-location shooting gives the story a startling, documentary-like veracity. Kubrick’s early career as a photographer for LOOK magazine comes through in the expressive lighting, gloomy tenements, and New York street scenes, and an uncanny confrontation between the boxer and gangster in a room full of female mannequins is a standout scene.
