The Ocean Waves by Tomomi Mochizuki (1993, 74 min.). Rarely seen outside of Japan, The Ocean Waves is a subtle, detailed story of adolescence and teenage isolation. Taku and his best friend Yutaka find their friendship tested by the arrival of Rikako, a new transfer student from Tokyo. When Taku joins Rikako on a trip to Tokyo, the three friends are forced to come to terms with their changing relationships.
