Oma & Bella by Alexa Karolinski (Germany, 2011, 75 min.). Two elderly Berlin women, Regina and Bella, come together to share stories and friendship in this up-close documentary by Regina’s granddaughter.  The pair recall the tragedies caused by the Holocaust.  Yet the look back also brings comfort in the form of sumptuous Jewish food from their childhoods that they recreate, together with their happiness as new apartment mates. Discussion with director follows screening. In German with English subtitles.
