Rififi by Jules Dassin (France, 1955, 122 min.). Blacklisted American filmmaker Jules Dassin directed this French caper about four gangsters who team up to pull off an impossible crime. The film is revered for a masterful heist scene, running nearly 30 minutes without dialogue or music, which has been referenced and recreated in countless crime films since. Rififi earned Dassin the Best Director award at the 1955 Cannes Festival.
