The Easy Way Out (L’Art de la fugue) by Brice Cauvin (2015, 98 min.). Based on 1992 novel by Boston author Stephen McCauley, The Easy Way Out concerns three brothers who are all looking for a change. Antoine is in his mid-30s and lives with Adar, but sleeps on the floor. Louis, the youngest brother, is engaged to his high school sweetheart, but is having an affair. Gérard, the oldest brother, can’t get over his ex-wife and spends his days working at his parents’ unsuccessful clothing store. When Antoine’s friend Ariel enters their world, everything changes. Decisions will have to be made—can the brothers find an easy way out? In French with English subtitles.
Discussion with Stephen McCauley follows July 23 screening.
