The Lavender Hill Mob by Charles Crichton (1951, 78 min., DCP). A meek banker (Guinness) teams up with his seedy neighbor (Stanley Holloway) to steal gold bullion and smuggle it out of the country in the shape of miniature Eiffel Towers. The film won an Academy Award for Best Writing, Story and Screenplay for T. E. B. Clarke and received a Best Actor nomination for Guinness.
