The Midwife (Sage femme) directed by Martin Provost (France, 2017, 117 min.).

Catherine Deneuve gives one of the best performances of her career as a brassy free spirit in this comedy-drama by renowned director Martin Provost (Séraphine). The film follows a talented but tightly wound midwife named Claire (Catherine Frot) who has no choice but to revive her chilly relationship with Béatrice (Deneuve), the boozing mistress of Claire’s deceased father. Seeing the sad state of Claire’s social life, Béatrice makes it her mission to teach the younger woman to have a good time—but as the two women grow closer, Béatrice is compelled to reveal a secret that might put a stop to their fun.
