The New Man (El hombre nuevo) by Aldo Garay (Uruguay/Chile, 2015, 79 min.). At the tender age of 12, Roberto supported the Sandinista revolution in Nicaragua and fought for education and social reforms. He continued his political struggle fighting alongside the Communist Tupamaros in Uruguay. Thirty years later he struggles to live his life as a woman named Stephanía, striving to be accepted by society and his family. Documentary filmmaker Aldo Garay has followed Stephanía for more than 20 years and provides a personal and tender portrait of a woman who can look back on a tempestuous life in which violence, drugs, prostitution, and political commitment all found a place. Winner of the Teddy Award for Best Documentary at the 2015 Berlin Film Festival. In Spanish with English subtitles.
