The Other Side by Roberto Minervini (France/Italy, 2015, 92 min.). Italian-born filmmaker Roberto Minervini directs this engrossing portrait of the Deep South, chronicling the daily lives of drug addicts and anti-government militants in the backwoods of Louisiana. Minervini weaves documentary footage into a narrative centered on a main character, Mark, who makes a living doing odd jobs and selling narcotics. His criminal past makes Mark unable to legally carry, but the film focuses on his peers’ stockpile of weapons, as they prepare for what they believe to be an impending war against Obama and the federal government.
