From the rediscovery of Pompeii in the late-1700s century to Fin-de-Siecle excavations, from the French Revolution to Art Deco, the 19th century was characterized by a fascination for the ancient world. In this gallery talk led by graduate student guest lecturer, Emma Clute, look at artifacts discovered during this century, imaginative interpretations of ancient history, and the way the ancient past was reused in the 19th century present.
